$ 450.00

Single sheet (6 x 10 inches). Fine watercolour of a winding river with the Himalayas in the background, captioned by the artist in pencil in the mount "The Lay".

"The Lay" is probably an anglicized name for one of the many small tributaries of one of the five major rivers that flow through the Punjab in what is now Pakistan. Punj means "five" and aab means "waters", so "punjab" means "land of five rivers". These five rivers that run through Punjab, having their originating source as various small lakes in Himalayas. They are the Beas, the Satluj, the Ravi, the Chenab, and the Jhelum.
